One of the best parts of being a blogger is getting to review awesome items like American Girl dolls. Um, I think they’re so adorable. The one I got to review this time is the Truly Me™ Doll: Medium Skin, Curly Dark Brown Hair, Hazel Eyes.
The Truly Me dolls are available in several different combinations so that they look like the recipient. You can get different hair colors and textures, different eye colors, and different skin colors. Awesome, eh? The personalization encourages young girls to be proud of whom they are. Obviously, my lovely 18 year old daughter doesn’t like like an 8 year old, but she resembles this doll, just a little. Isn’t she beautiful?
My favorite thing about truly me dolls is their hair. It’s curly and soft and shiny, but not stiff feeling, and according to the company, if her hair gets messy, all you have to do is wet your finger and smooth it down to get it to go back into the style. (I wish my hair did that!)
The doll showed up at my door wearing a pretty lilac dress with a sparkly waistband and sequined mesh accents, cotton underwear, and turquoise shoes. I absolutely LOVE the outfit! She’s the same size as the other American girls – 18 inches high with a huggable cloth body and moveable limbs. Her little face is absolutely perfect with details right down to the tiny front teeth and eyes that smile all on their own.
Different lines of American Girl dolls have different personality traits, and the Truly Me dolls are a little bit different. Each one includes the Truly Me activity, which features dozens of idea cards for imaginative doll play and do–together crafts, recipes, and quizzes. There are also cards that give advice on friendship, self–confidence, and more. Like the other American Girls, this doll teaches little girls a great message about being kind, patient, and loving themselves. It’s one of the reasons I love the company so much – they’re not just selling dolls. They’re selling life skills.
American Girl dolls are super popular ‐ and why wouldn’t they be? They’re adorable, made to last of high quality materials, and little girls see them as companions. You can get a huge range of accessories for the dolls, including clothing, furniture, books, and even pets. Awesome, right? Because they’re all the same size, the accessories are interchangeable. I’m excited to add my new Truly Me doll to my collection. I just wish I had them 20 years ago!
