We received the Zike in exchange for our honest and unbiased opinion.
Let me start with a little backstory here (I know you love my backstories!). I didn’t have much in the line of toys as a kid. My parents didn’t believe in spending money on toys so I got a lot of “different” gifts. One year I wanted a scooter so my dad made me one out of two pieces of 24 lumber and an old roller skate. It was nailed together and couldn’t turn or anything, but I rode that thing every day for about a year before the skate wheels wore out.
Twenty years later, Ty asked me if I’d like to review the Wingflyer by Zike. This is beyond my wildest dreams as a kid. It’s a hybrid scooter with pedals and a chain, so you maneuver it like a bike (or more like a stair stepper) but it’s built like a scooter. You have to see the picture to fully understand it.
Have you heard of Zike yet? I have to admit that I’d never heard of it before. Since the little one’s birthday was coming up, I figured it was perfect timing. This thing is seriously the coolest thing EVER! Unfortunately, it was too big for my daughter, so my husband had to try it out.
The pros:
It’s super durable. The weight limit on it is 150 lbs, but my husband was out riding it around and he’s about 200.
It’s really fun to ride – he had a great time and I was seriously jealous.
It’s the perfect way to get your kids to exercise – the workout is cleverly disguised in the fun.
The reflectors on the pedals make sure your kid will be seen if they start heading home after the sun starts going down.
The kickstand holds it up really well so it doesn’t need to be “dumped” on the ground when the kids reach their destination.
You can get Zikes for adults! Make getting in shape a family affair!
WINGFLYER BY ZIKE
The cons:
It’s not for little kids. The website says ages 6-10 and my daughter is a big 5 year old. Most people think she’s 6 or 7. But she’s not tall enough as you can see.
Assembly required. When this showed up at my door, my husband was out of town for work and I had to recruit my daughter’s boyfriend to put it together for me.
It’s heavy. A smaller child might have a hard time picking it up if it fell, and I wouldn’t want to have to carry it up several flights of stairs to my apartment or anything. If you have a bike rack, though, tie it up! It’s the same kind of construction as a bicycle. Maybe even sturdier.
Overall, I really thought it was awesome, and I would definitely recommend it. We’re saving ours for next year or maybe the year after when my daughter is a little bit taller.
The Zike would make an awesome Christmas gift and is a really cool thing to get for a kid that spends a little too much time playing video games and needs to get out and get moving. It’s good exercise that they’ll LOVE. Check out the website to find a Zike for everyone in your family. You can all have fun and stay in shape together! There’s no better gift than the gift of health.
