If you’ve got a daughter in high school, the mere mention of school shopping is scary. Most moms love shopping, and most daughters do too, but the problem lies in the clothes the daughters want. They’re not usually what moms want. Sometimes they’re too revealing, sometimes they’re just not what we want for them, and sometimes they’re just too expensive.
This year, we did all of our fall shopping at Kohl’s. They have great looks for girls at good prices, and their clothes are of good quality. They also have everything you need in one place – tops, bottoms, shoes, socks, underwear, and accessories – so that’s less shopping that has to be done elsewhere.
Whether your daughter’s taste is preppy, sporty, goth, or classic, they’re sure to find a few things that will make them happy. Hot trends this year include layers, skinny jeans, leggings, graphic tees, and boots. (Almost like what their parents wore in the 80s and 90s. But don’t tell them!)
The good news for parents is that the layered look can be mixed up (awesome, right?). A few pairs of jeans and leggings and a few tees and sweaters can be mixed into several combinations, unlike in previous years when the girls were all wearing colored jeans that only matched with one top.
Boots are usually a little bit pricier than other shoes, but it’s not uncommon to see teenaged girls wearing boots with leggings or jeans or skirts, so they can do double and triple duty this season as well. Kohl’s has all different styles of boots from ankle boots to knee-high boots with different heel heights.
Another way to change up the outfits and get more for your money is with accessories. Big, blingy bracelets are hot this year and you can find them in many different styles and in packages of more than one. Kohl’s also has purses and hats in all sizes and shapes at pretty affordable prices. Fedoras are trendy, but many high schools don’t allow hats so make sure that yours does before you spend the money.
Don’t forget to go shopping armed with coupons. Stores are running big sales this time of year, but if you can find a percent off coupon online, you’ll be HAPPY you took the time. Especially if you have more than one child, even ten percent off can make a big difference. Kohl’s is currently running a gold star clearance event, where everything’s 60 to 80% off.
While the task seems daunting every year, with a little preparation and knowledge of what you’re looking for you can find some great clothes at great prices that you and your daughter will both love. Try to have fun. Even though school shopping with teenage girls is stressful, the time when they won’t need you to take them school shopping anymore will come soon enough, and then if you’re like most parents, you’ll miss it.
