We’re still working on our “Home Makeover” and we’ve been having so much fun! This time we’re going to be making over the dining room (my favorite part of the house). My dining room wasn’t bad before, but it was just…BLAH. Now it’s fabulous. Basically, I had a table and chairs and that’s it. I was afraid to let the kids do their homework at the table because they’d fall asleep like I used to do when class was boring (Don’t tell them I swore I was an A+ student!). Anyway, now my dining room is FABulous.
I wanted something more cozy and inviting. I’ve been dreaming about a taller table for quite a while. I think they’re perfect for entertaining and playing board games. Since I have two dining rooms in my home, I wanted one to be more formal. I was looking for something darker (I have messy kids) but cozy at the same time, which this table is. I accented it with some beautiful burlap bows and some pretty dark brown place mats. I think it turned out really well.
I got this wondrous table at Big Lots. I’ve always liked Big Lots because the furniture is high quality and it fits comfortably within my budget. If I didn’t tell you, you’d think it came from a high end furniture store.
Also from Big Lots, I got some beautiful dark brown sheer curtains to lighten things up since everything in my home tends to be darker. Because they’re sheer, they let in a lot of light. Those of you with children understand why I buy everything in dark shades. You may as well start with dark brown because after the kids eat chocolate everywhere, it will be brown anyway.
For the table, I got dark brown placemats, candle holders and flowers. I think they make the room look brighter and more inviting. The burlap chair decor is my own DIY addition. Um, it was really easy to do (instructions below) and I think it’s the perfect accent that this small space needed. I wasn’t sure what to do about a centerpiece, so I took two small candle holders and placed some beautiful green sunflowers in them. Then, I folded the placemats in half to give the table a more roomier look. I love the wall decor I picked out for the wall it looks like little small charger plates put together. I really LOVE it. I just think it really ties this room together.
Supplies:
- Burlap
- Scissors
- Hot Glue
- Flowers
- Chair
Burlap Chair Sash Instructions:
First, cut the burlap in half.
Then wrap the burlap around the chair.
Pull one end through the center of the chair, then wrap the other end around the chair.
Pull it around, and pull it back through until you form a pretty design.
You can let the bow drape or cut it, it’s up to you. Then take the hot glue and affix the flower to the front of the bow. It’s that simple and it really adds a lot of character to the room.
As far as the table goes, it was really hard to choose which set I wanted. The selection was HUGE and I loved many different sets for different reasons. Maybe someday I’ll have a mansion and I can redo three or four dining rooms. In the meantime, this one is going to look great during the holidays. I’m already getting really excited. I can’t wait to have the entire family laughing and enjoying each other’s company around this gorgeous table.
I’ve actually purchased many things at Big Lots for different rooms in my home, it’s a store that always gives me a great selection and great value. The employees are always nice and super helpful. I’ve never had a bad experience there. They even helped me load the table into my truck. Sweet, right?
I really can’t say enough good things about Big Lots. I LOVE that I can go there and buy beautiful furniture for my home, food, toiletries, and everything else I need all in one place. Awesome right? Big Lots was the first place we went when we shopped for my daughter’s dorm room. Where else can you get furnishings and school supplies at the same time?
Does your dining room need a little sprucing up before the holiday season? If so, I encourage you to go to Big Lots and check out the selections today.
