Do you try to save water? I’m sure you’ve heard about the huge drought we’re having here in California as well as the wildfires, and to be honest I really didn’t think much about water until this summer. I wasn’t wasteful, but I wasn’t really as conservative as I’ve become. Now I think about it All. The. Time. And I try to save water any way that I can. One of the ways I conserve water (and energy) is by using my dishwasher. Washing dishes by hand uses up to SEVEN times more water than using a dishwasher. That’s insane. That means that if you wash dishes by hand just once a day for 7 days, you’re using up to 49 times more water than if you you’re your dishwasher. So why don’t you use it more?

Some people don’t like to use their dishwashers as much because they feel that the dishes don’t get as clean. The fact is that they actually get cleaner in the dishwasher than they do when you wash them by hand. The water in the dishwasher is much hotter than you could ever stand to have your hands in, and that combined with the heat cycle kills more germs than hand washing does.
Take a look at this infographic for some more information about dishwashing vs. handwashing in regard to energy, time, and water savings.
Some people just find it more convenient to hand wash. Um, they like the convenience of just using one product. Dishwashers require powders or liquids and then rinse aids and there’s a lot of measuring…not anymore. Finish® recently released Max in 1, a new product that offers powerful clean and shine for your glasses and also helps to prevent corrosion - leaving everything clean and shiny! All you have to do is pop in the tab. No measuring and messes involved.
Some people started out using their dishwashers and find that they’re not getting the dishes clean enough, so they go back to handwashing. There are usually a few reasons for this. The first is that they’re not using the right detergent, which is easily remedied by switching to Finish® Max in 1. The second is that they either overload or don’t load the dishwasher properly. Just like a clothes washing machine, overloading results in a less clean result. The water and soap needs room to swish around. Check out this video provided by Finish for the proper loading technique as well as a plethora of other great tips for your dishwasher.
I’ve got one more tip for you – well it’s not really a tip but you’re going to like it anyway! The good people at Finish are giving a bag of the new Max in 1 tabs to one of my lucky readers! All you have to do is enter via the simple form below. Happy Dishwashing!
