Our Christmas tree is decorated with special, homemade ornaments that the kids have made at school or helped to make here at home. We’ve found some great ideas for Clothespin Crafts and recently made these miniature snowflake ornaments. They look beautiful on our tree and we made some extras for decorating our Christmas gifts too!
Clothespin Crafts Snowflake Ornament
Supplies:
- miniature clothespins – these are the tiniest ones I have seen (you’ll need six clothespins for each snowflake)
- hot glue and glue gun
- buttons
- thin ribbon or string
- paint, paint markers (optional)
Instruction:
Begin by separating the halves of the clothespin. You won’t be using the metal spring part but save these for a future craft! There are lots of fun uses for them.
Reverse the clothespins so that the flat sides are facing each other. Carefully glue each set together this way. You’ll need six pieces for each ornament.
Next, glue the six pieces together to create your six pointed snowflake. You will be covering the center with a button so it isn’t necessary to be perfect with the gluing. It’s more important to make sure the points of the snowflake are straight.
After the snowflake is glued together, glue a pretty button to the center of each snowflake.
Cut a piece of ribbon to approximately 6″ and tie the loose ends in a knot. Glue this ribbon to the back of the snowflake if you are going to hang these on your tree. If using to decorate a package, simply leave the ribbon off.
The miniature clothespins I purchased were natural and white. I like the natural look as my tree has burlap and wicker ornaments on it. The white could be left white or you can add a little bit of silver or colored detail with a paint pen. If you want other colors, simply paint the clothespins.
These little snowflakes look great on the tree but will make a pretty addition to any present or gift tag to0!
