Homemade BBQ Sauce

by

Summer is right around the corner and all the amazing flavors that come with it are on my mind!

Last week we found a great deal on pork spare ribs and decided to grill them up and make a batch of Homemade BBQ Sauce to go with them.  I love BBQ sauce and there are several store bought sauces that my family enjoys but we LOVE our homemade sauce the best!

Homemade BBQ Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 6 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp fresh ground pepper
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tbsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tbsp ground mustard
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp ground red pepper

Homemade BBQ SauceInstructions:

Combine the apple cider, ketchup, and apple cider vinegar in a heavy sauce pan.  Heat on medium until the ketchup the mixture is smooth.

Add the brown sugar and continue cooking over medium heat, stirring often, until the sugar has dissolved.

Add the remaining ingredients and increase the heat.  Bring to a boil.

Reduce the heat and simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Remove from heat and transfer to a jar, cover, and refrigerate.  Store in refrigerator until ready to serve.

Homemade BBQ Sauce

What is great about this recipe is that you can substitute the apple cider with other juices or even jelly or cranberry sauce for different flavor combinations!
